The Natural
Gas Division of Public Works has an office at 4011 14th Street. This division's
primary goal is to maintain existing gas lines and replace
antiquated and/or leaking lines with new gas lines.
The
natural gas provided to your home is piped into Pascagoula through
two stations in the county. It enters Pascagoula through
high-pressure lines which are slowly diminished in size and pressure
until they reach your street and home. Most natural gas mains in the
city are located in the easement by the roadside but can also be
found in alleyways. The city gas crews are responsible for the
maintenance of all natural gas mains and services up to your gas
meter. The lines from your meter and throughout your home do not
fall within the city's responsibility. However, if you feel that you
have a possible natural gas leak in or around your home do not
hesitate to call us. (Please see our Frequently
Asked Questions page.) If we have been responsible for your pilot lights
being out or if you have any questions about service please call us
at 938-6257.
The gas crews that are working in your area
cannot alter or affect your gas bill. Any release of gas from the
gas main and beyond have no effect on your bill. The gas must pass
through your gas meter to show on your bill. If you feel you have
been overcharged we will reread your meter during normal working
hours free-of-charge twice in a twelve month period. Three or more
requests in this time frame will result in a reread charge on your
utility bill. To request a reread of your meter please contact Utility Billing at 938-6633. There are other services provided by the gas division
which incur a fee. These include moving your gas meter, turning gas
on or off, connecting to a gas main, and repairs caused by customer
abuse. The rates and charges for these and other services can be
obtained by calling the Public Works Department at 938-6257 from
7:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Monday through Friday. |
