Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005 app. 75 miles from Pascagoula.
The storm was so powerful that it destroyed homes and lives even this far from
landfall.
On August 29, 2006,the City of Pascagoula along with Chevron and Northrop
Grumman
erected a memorial at Beach Park. The plaque reads:
"May the winds of destruction and the waves of sorrow
forever remind us of the opportunity and hope we have found."
