The
solid waste division is responsible for removal and disposal of all solid
waste on city and publicly owned property. The division is also responsible
for the operations of the city owned transfer station and recycling center.
The
solid waste division insures that solid waste on private property is
collected and disposed of by the city’s solid waste contractor. Collection
of solid waste on private property is the responsibility of the city’s
contractor.
The
solid waste division investigates and oversees the cleanup from any illegal
dumpsites in accordance with MDEQ guidelines.
Please report illegal dumping and the location of the illegal dumpsite to the Public Works Department at 938-6257.

Proper Disposal of Materials
Tires -
Contact a local tire dealer for receipt of your old
tires or contact the Jackson County solid waste office for the location of
the county operated disposal site.
Paint/solvent/household hazardous materials/batteries -
Jackson county operates a collection site for these
materials you may contact them for time and dates of operations at 769-3269.
The following items will NOT be collected and must be collected and
disposed of by the person producing or accumulating such trash.

Noncombustible materials such as rocks, bricks, tires, roofing materials, metal, and large quantities of glass.

Hazardous waste, such as those materials which are on the federal
government’s hazardous waste list. (such as paint, chemicals, vehicle
batteries, corrosive material, or poisonous materials)

Building materials or any other form of refuse generated by a
contractor, tree surgeons, or homeowners who obtain a building permit.
(These items will be the responsibility of the contractor or homeowner.

Automotive junk
-
Dead animals (Contact animal control).
For
proper disposal of the above items please contact the Jackson County Solid
Waste Office at 769-3269 for location, dates, and time of operation of
county operated facilities.
Items
not in containers or bundled piles weighing in excess of the fifty (50)
pounds such as furniture, appliance, and yard toys will be picked up
within seven (7) days of placement at the curb.
Please contact the Public Works Department for information on the proper
handling of air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators and similar items.
